Our Accommodation

Rustic Retreats offer a choice of two homely holiday cottages in the villages of Brassington and Carsington as well as hosting a solo campervan pitch overlooking Carsington Water for our partner company Alpacas at Carsington Ltd.

Jack's Cottage

Sleeps 4 - Hot Tub - Wood Burner

Situated in the village of Brassington this stone-built semi-detached cottage provides admirable accommodation for up to four people.

Jack’s Cottage is dog friendly and boasts a cosy lounge complete with wood burner, fully equipped cottage kitchen, and tranquil bedrooms for a good night’s sleep.

Outside, there’s a private patio garden with a luxurious hot tub, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the surroundings.

Brassington offers two traditional country pubs, one conveniently located just next door but one, together with an abundance of hiking trails and scenic viewpoints to explore right on the doorstep.

Owslow Cottage is situated at the heart of the Derbyshire Dales on a rural working organic farm spanning 500 acres of striking countryside with stunning views of Carsington Water.

This rustic countryside cottage is approximately 400 years old and offers a combination of traditional features, exposed stonework and wooden beams.

Owslow Cottage accommodates the perfect tranquil getaway. There's a private hot tub and accommodation for up to five guests complete with a rear enclosed courtyard enabling any farm enthusiast to observe the farming practices, ensuring a memorable stay surrounded by nature.

It was a fantastic experience for all the family - aged from 10 to 80 years old. Would thoroughly recommend. Really helpful and informative staff, and the alpacas are gorgeous, well-kept and happy. An amazing experience and the team went out of their way to accommodate our large group.

Fun and friendly trek leads, who were knowledgeable and made the activity really enjoyable.

I was given Pepper who was an absolute dream. The alpacas are extremely well looked after and the staff are very hands on and knowledgeable about all things alpaca! It's a stunning spot overlooking Carsington with self catering accommodation on site for those who fancy a longer stay.

Everything was amazing with little details that give a homely vibe away from home, peaceful village with a few pubs mere minutes walk away & incredible views, not too far from any walks, walking up with the sound animals & relaxing in the hot tub. The cottage I was told is over 200 years old and a farm that is originally 400 years old..
When you see in the lounge the depth of the stone widows you realise the age of this rustic place..
The cottage has a inner stone hall, leading to the back patio and the entrance to the inner hall of the cottage.
The kitchen has every thing you will need on your break, the host provided tin foil , cling film, tea towels, cloths and pan scrubbers , salt and pepper, washing up liquid, hand soaps, kitchen roll,and a bottle of prosecco, beautiful luxury biscuits and a pint of milk, also provided was sugar, tea bags and coffee. It had a dishwasher and all the cleaning tools needed, hoover, brush etc, large fridge freezer also.
The lounge has the largest corner sofa I have ever seen, am sure it would sit 6/8 comfortably on its very soft and comfortable leather ..
The lounge has oak dressers and table
Lots of storage, and various lighting options..
The cottage is centrally heated and also has oil filled radiators and convector fire I presume if needed..
It looked as though games provided but we did not explore this .The TV is large and has Netflix and YouTube availability.
The large double bed room is beautifully inspired by dragon flies on the wallpaper and some wall hangings .loads of hanging space and drawers .
The bed is an average double ..very comfy, I would say a medium mattress, which we love, pillows were lovely one firmer than other so perfect for us .The bedroom had a folding bed I presume for 5th person
The bathroom has a powerful shower and heated rail, and we were provided with plenty of soft towels and toiletries .
The other bed room was large and had 2 single beds but we did not use this room.
Outside the cottage had 2 patios, at the front a beautiful hot tub, monitored daily by owner.
The rear patio had table and chairs, the stone wall around the patio is low enough to see cows and alpacas.
We did not have the alpaca experience as we have done before and sadly this week was not conducive to tracking in fields as we had awful wet weather daily.
We did have a lovely walk around the parts of the farm we could and saw the amazing goats, alpacas, cows and crazy chickens and I think ducks and geese running around ..
We went to many local restaurants and pubs in the area and had some lovely ( wet) days out in the surrounding area .
We have told all our friends and family if want this experience this is a fabulous place to go.

Stunning cosy, clean, comfortable holiday home with everything you need for a relaxing break. The alpacas are beautiful and gentle, and the goats are the biggest I’ve ever seen. Lots of fabulous pubs and restaurants to choose. Ideal location for exploring. Will definitely be back!
